The Promassive Print Portfolio was created to raise money for AS220, a non-profit arts center in downtown Providence, and to raise awareness of the thriving community of printmakers in Providence.
The project put original art in the hands of hundreds of first time collectors and supported the work of 25 artists living and working in Providence. It also successfully benefited AS220 and it's ongoing mission to provide an uncensored and unjuried forum for Rhode Island artists. The complete portfolio was also acquired for the permanent collection of the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art.
Gallery Agniel acknowledges that Promassive could not have taken place without the efforts of co-curator Ted Altman and the generosity of the Monohasset Mill Partnership who donated the use of their gallery space.
EXCERPTS FROM THE PRESS RELEASE:
We curated PROMASSIVE to get the public in front of the work of 25 amazingly talented artists. People from Providence who have been hard at work in an underrepresented medium. Gallery Agniel presents PROMASSIVE at a reception on March 1st, 2002, from 6 to 9 PM at the Monohasset Mill.
It's going to be one big show of great new work by 25 of the very best. It's a chance to see examples of one of the richest veins of creative production in the city and a rare collecting opportunity. Because, there has never been a convening of talents like this in one place before or a collection of work similar to this. Brilliant adventurous work that finally has the chance to be fully appreciated.
Plus, PROMASSIVE benefits AS220, the organization that gave the first break to many of the artists Gallery Agniel represents today. Here's how it all works: Twenty-five artists have been invited to create a print in a limited edition of 50 for the PROMASSIVE portfolio. When you come to the show you will be able to buy sets of five prints for $500.00, or the entire portfolio of twenty-five prints for $2500.00.
